EDT 303: INCLUSIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR LEARNING (ADAPTIVE AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY)

Course Description: EDT 303 – Inclusive Technology for Learning (Adaptive and Assistive Technology)

EDT 303: Inclusive Technology for Learning (Adaptive and Assistive Technology) is a practical and learner-centered course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to support diverse learners through the effective use of technology. The course emphasizes the importance of creating inclusive learning environments where all learners, regardless of their abilities, disabilities, or learning differences, have equal opportunities to participate and succeed.

In contemporary educational settings, learner diversity is a fundamental reality. Students may present varying needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, cognitive challenges, or differences in learning styles. This course addresses these variations by introducing students to adaptive and assistive technologies that enhance accessibility, promote participation, and support personalized learning.

The course explores key concepts, including inclusive education principles, assistive and adaptive technologies, learner diversity, and barrier-free learning environments. It also provides practical exposure to a wide range of tools, from low-tech solutions to advanced digital applications, that can be used to support learners with special needs.

The course focuses on the design and implementation of inclusive instructional strategies, enabling students to integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning processes. Students will learn how to evaluate assistive technologies, select appropriate tools based on learner needs, and develop inclusive lesson plans that promote equity rather than mere equality.

By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate the ability to apply inclusive technology in real-life educational contexts, address challenges associated with implementation, and contribute to the development of equitable and accessible learning environments. The course ultimately prepares future educators, instructional designers, and educational technologists to embrace diversity and use technology as a tool for inclusive and transformative education.
