EDT 511:  Advanced Library Studies

The course Advanced Library Studies (EDT 511) is designed to equip learners with in-depth knowledge and practical competencies in modern Library and Information Science. Building on foundational concepts from EDT 414, this course explores advanced theories, tools, and practices that shape contemporary library services in an increasingly digital and information-driven world .

Throughout the course, students will engage with key areas such as knowledge organization systems, cataloguing and metadata standards, digital libraries, institutional repositories, and open access publishing. Emphasis is placed on how emerging technologies—including automation systems, artificial intelligence, and digital information platforms—are transforming the way libraries operate and deliver services.

In addition, the course examines essential management and leadership principles required for effective library administration. Students will also explore ethical and legal considerations in information access, as well as current and future trends influencing the evolution of libraries globally.

By the end of the course, learners will be well-prepared to manage information resources, support research activities, and contribute meaningfully to the development of modern, technology-driven library systems.
