EDU 524: Projects

Course Description: EDU 524 – Projects

EDU 524: Projects is a core postgraduate course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to conceptualise, design, and execute an original research project in education. As a compulsory graduation requirement in the M.Tech. Education programme, the course serves as the culminating academic experience through which students demonstrate their mastery of research principles and scholarly inquiry.

The course provides a comprehensive foundation in academic research, beginning with an exploration of the nature, purpose, and characteristics of scholarly research. Students are introduced to key research concepts, including types of educational research (basic, applied, and action research), research approaches (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and various research designs. Emphasis is placed on understanding how research contributes to educational development, policy formulation, and professional practice.

A major focus of the course is the development of practical research skills. Students learn how to identify and articulate researchable problems, formulate clear purpose statements, develop research questions and hypotheses, and justify the significance of their studies. The course further guides students through essential components of research writing, including literature review, conceptual and theoretical frameworks, and proper referencing using APA standards.

Ethical considerations and academic integrity are central to this course. Students are trained to conduct research responsibly, adhering to principles such as informed consent, confidentiality, and honesty in data reporting. The course also addresses issues of plagiarism and promotes best practices for maintaining scholarly credibility.

By the end of the course, students are expected to produce a well-structured, methodologically sound research project that contributes meaningfully to the field of education.
