Course Description: Career in Educational Technology
FUTMEDT 311: Career in Educational Technology is a three-credit undergraduate course designed to introduce students to the dynamic and expanding professional landscape of Educational Technology (EdTech). The course provides a comprehensive exploration of career pathways available within the field, including instructional design, educational media production, learning management system (LMS) administration, e-learning coordination, and emerging technology-driven roles such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and learning analytics.
Students are guided to develop both theoretical understanding and practical competencies required for successful entry into the EdTech profession. Emphasis is placed on professional identity formation, career planning, portfolio development, and awareness of industry-relevant certifications. The course also explores entrepreneurial opportunities within EdTech, equipping students with skills for self-employment, consultancy, and startup development.
In addition, the course examines the historical evolution and institutional development of Educational Technology in Nigeria, enabling students to identify local and global career opportunities. Ethical, legal, and professional standards governing EdTech practice are also addressed to ensure responsible and effective professional engagement.
By the end of the course, students will be able to design a personalized career pathway, develop a professional CV and digital portfolio, and demonstrate readiness to thrive in the rapidly evolving EdTech job market.
